As a church, we’ve been working through the book of John on Sunday mornings and in our small groups. We also want to be reading the word outside of these times. So we can do this together, we have set up a reading plan. Each day of this plan will focus on one chapter and include three simple questions.
Starting on September 16th the plan will begin with John 1. Twenty-one days later on October 6th the plan will finish in John 21. Yes, it really is that simple!
Don’t worry if you miss a day or two. If that happens you can read an extra chapter or two or pick up on the current date.
Let’s get started!
As you start:
To begin your time each day, We invite you to start by saying a simple prayer: “God, would you help me to see and understand what you have for me in this time? Help me to know you more so I may follow you more closely.”
After reading each passage take a moment to consider these questions:
- What did this chapter say? About God? Jesus? People? Life? Etc.
- What is the main theme or truth of this passage?
- What is one way you can apply this passage to your life? Try to think of something specific you could begin right away.
A prayer to close your time could be something like this: “God, thank you for the Bible, and how it helps us to know you. Would you help me to remember what I’ve read today and may it have an impact on how I live, starting today?”
There are all kinds of amazing resources designed to help us read and better understand the Bible. Here are two that may help you!
