I got involved at New Life during my freshman year at the University of Michigan, but was living a double life where I went to church on Sunday but still participated in the East Quad dorm’s party scene the rest of the week. Over and over, God convicted me that I needed to quit my sinful lifestyle and give my life to Christ, but I had a hard heart and refused. At the end of my sophomore year, I finally broke down after I was arrested for possession of marijuana. It was one of the best things God ever did for me because He used it to get my attention and break through my heart of stone. I finally gave my life to Christ wholeheartedly. Throughout this whole process, friends at New Life loved and accepted me, helping me avoid temptation and get connected to the church community. Now I am married to the love of my life, Kristin, who is an amazing woman of God with an incredible ability to know me and love me for who I am. Our adorable daughter, Anja, was born in February 2011, and our beloved son, Isaiah, in August 2013. They are an unbelievable delight to us. After graduating and getting married, God moved powerfully in my heart to convict me that He was calling me to come back to Ann Arbor and reach out to students in East Quad.
I co-lead the Westside New Life Team (representing students from West Quad, East Quad, Barber, and Newberry), leading small groups and training small group leaders in this part of campus so we can multiply our impact. I reach out to students in East Quad by developing relationships and sharing the Gospel. I am particularly passionate about this dorm and its students because I know firsthand its unique culture and the challenges of following God while living there.
