About H2O

Our Story So Far...

H2O Church of Kalamazoo started in 2018. We came as a church plant to Western Michigan University from New Life Church in Ann Arbor.

Our hope in coming to Kalamazoo was to join in the efforts of seeking first God's kingdom on campus at WMU and across the city of Kalamazoo.

Our first service was held in 1001 Wood Hall on Sept 9, 2018.

We were amazed by the number of students who decided to join us in our first fall and ever since.

Much of our first year was full of "let's try and see" moments, as we, along with many of the first year students we met, had never been here before.

Since that fall we have continuously seen God move in incredible ways. We have seen students come to faith in Jesus, we've celebrated baptisms in the SRC pool and in the courtyard of Wood Hall. And through the ups and downs of the past four years we've continued to learn how to continue to be the church God has invited us to be here in Kalamazoo.

It's been an incredible adventure so far, but God is faithful and believe he has incredible things in store for us. With hope and anticipation we look forward all that the LORD has in store for us in year five and beyond.

H2O? Water Church?

It's not uncommon for us to get asked about our name. While we do value the importance of healthy hydration habits there's a bit more to it.

In the gospel of John, chapter 4, Jesus encounters a woman who has come to fetch water from a well. During their interaction Jesus tells this woman that if she would ask of him he would give her "Living water".

Slightly confused the woman asks Jesus how he would get this water, but to clarify, he was not speaking of mere H2O, a few verses later he says this "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but who ever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

We as a church believe Jesus wants to give everyone this eternal life, and our hope is to be a people of life welling up to eternal life and flowing to the world around us.
